The waiter’s friend is one of the most popular corkscrews, especially among waiters, bartenders and sommeliers. It was invented and patented in 1882 by Karl F.A. Wienke a German inventor. It’s a corkscrew in a folding body, similar to a pocket knife. The characteristics are the helix, which gets twisted into the cork and a single lever, needed to pull the cork out of the bottle by pressing against the neck of the bottle.
