Benches are versatile. A bench can be old or modern, clean or scribbled on, made of wood or metal, it can be cozy or not. Some benches stand under large trees in the countryside and invite you to linger, others stand in shopping malls and give you the opportunity to take a break. Benches are places of encounters. On benches people have good conversations, laugh, read books, kiss, drink, sleep or wait for time to pass.

This book is intended to give benches greater importance, because they accompany us through everyday life and give us the opportunity to sit down in between, take a little break and breathe deeply. Sometimes that’s all it takes.
