Mary Serif is a typeface based on the well-known Rotis, personalized by adding the bracketed serifs. The first character designed was the lowercase letter “a”, who’s shape and high contrast was inspired by the majuscule uncial script. Based on this letter I utilized the same logic to create the other characters.
My personal aim was to create an old style typeface with several modern features, so that it can be used in any situation.
Its name is dedicated to Mary Eleonor Wilkingson Freeman, a prominent 19-century American authoress.
