Mina is a sans serif font that I created using as a reference Futura, a geometric sans-serif typeface designed by Paul Renner and released in 1927. Futura is based on geometric shapes, especially the circle, similar in spirit to the Bauhaus design style of the period and it was developed by the Bauer Type Foundry.
From that I started to create the typeface doing some variations on the letters and modifing the thickness of the strokes. Here I kept the modernist style and the pointed cut-off of Futura, but I decided to change the contrast in order to give a less rigid look to the typeface. As in the serif font I chose an “e” with an inclinated crossbar. The result is a simple font that, eventhough it maintains more or less the geomitric shapes, is softened by the variation of the strokes’ thickness.
