The workshop “Disordine of perceptions” is the product of the research that emerged from the theme of disorder, what is called in Italian Disordine. The disorder is defined as “a lack of order or regular arrangement; confusion”. The theme of the disorder transpires transliterated in the workshop which is focused on the unpredictability and everchanging perceptions that we and others have of ourselves.

The way in which something is regarded, understood, or interpreted is the definition of perception. People’s perception is one of the most subjective aspects of human nature. Perception gives individuals a way to express their singularity. On the other hand, self-perception is influenced by how we think someone else perceives us. This duality is a messy contradiction that dictates how self-aware we are or how we look at our flaws. The experiential workshop “Disordered perception”, was created with the aim of bringing awareness to how we look at others and at ourselves. It is a way to visualize perception and comprehend how it affects us and how distant this perception can be from reality.

The workshop is a journey through the self-perception and perception of others. When each participant will arrive we will take a photo portrait of them. Everyone is gonna be put in pairs. In the room, the people that are paired, are gonna be advised not to talk in order to fully focus on the task. The task will take 15 minutes. The pairs will be situated on opposite sides of a table. The task will start with a self-portrait on a piece of a mirror. After 5 minutes the first task will end and one participant will draw the other by looking at him/her through a piece of plexiglass. After 5 minutes the other will do the same. In the end, the participant is gonna be advised to write some considerations on the experience.

These artifacts represent the different subjective perceptions that a person can express: An objective one: a photo, a subjective one: the mirror drawing, and an external one: the plexiglas portrait.
