“Alpenflora” is a botanical book on the subject of alpine plants. The book was written by Dr. Gustav Hegl and published by J. F. Lehmanns Verlag in the year 1927.

My editorial project had a primary focus on revitalizing this book, imbuing it with a fresher and more contemporary aesthetic. The aim was to create a more engaging and visually appealing version, with a special emphasis on the creative use of typography. Additionally, my efforts were directed towards enhancing the book’s usability and accessibility for readers.

To achieve these goals, I reorganised the book’s layout, introduced increased negative space, experimented with macrotypography, and employed a simple yet effective color palette of blue and red. The book can be divided into two distinct sections: the first primarily comprising images and the second dedicated to the textual descriptions of various plant species.

When it comes to the resulting product, the objective was to craft something genuinely valuable for the book’s readers. The choice of wood as the primary material not only provides a tactile and aesthetic delight but also serves to make the book enjoyable to use. This flower press was thoughtfully designed to encourage and facilitate personal exploration within the fascinating world of botany, inviting readers to immerse themselves further in the beauty of the botanical realm.
