Anima

x’ xx” video on semi-transparent textile, 2,30 x 1,80 m

The project Anima is dedicated to all those parts of the feminine being that have been banished and declared undesirable. In the course of the last few weeks I have come into contact with areas of the Unconsciousness and got first ideas of its depth. At the beginning I felt uneasy and strange sensations spread through me. I felt very clearly that I was reaching certain limits. Whether they were limits of what is allowed and accepted or what it is possible for me to grasp, they felt very real, even if they had no rational justification. This evolution was extremely exciting and also draining. The visual inspirations that accompanied my development were of a varied nature. However, the ideas I was able to put on paper or translate into language, whether they were words, symbols or drawings, all seemed to be of a similar nature. I realized, with the help of the conversations with Eva, German and Giulia, that my translation was conforming to long-established stereotypes. This insight was difficult and yet necessary and crucial. At the same time, I also realized that I am at the beginning of my research on this topic and that “Anima” is a first step. This step represents for me the emergence of the banished sides of the woman at the border of the conscious and the unconscious. It deforms and arches this sphere and an experience of a liberating first contact with the new, the strange, was made.
