ABOUT  B A I T A

B A I T A is a glasshouse which takes its design from what is dearest to us all: home.
The glass body lays on a perforated Corten structure that allows total control on the ventilation system.
The iconic chimney guarantees a continuous air exchange and the lower mobile metal structure controls the intensity of the air flow.

For B A I T A we inspired ourselves on the shapes of traditional lanterns. We focused our research onto different air – flowing systems like the one of chimneys in southern Italy or air – exchange in Moroccan houses.
For this reason we adapted those systems onto our project in order to develop a glasshouse with controlled air – exchange.
The shape we wanted to achieve was the one of a house, in its simplest way. That’s why we created this rudimental shape out of 4mm float – glass. Since we wanted to adapt the adjustable air – flow system, we developed an iron frame in which the up and – down sliding of the glass body gets blocked by two stainless – steel stopblocks, which can also be used as handles. This perforated frame is made out of Corten – steel, a special type of steel, mostly used in architecture, which prevents rusting due to it’s special patina.
The main characteristic of B A I T A is the chimney.
Just like the frame, also the chimney is made out of Corten – steel. It just sits onto the top opening of the glass body, so it can easily be removed in order to water your plants inside it.
The air flow can be regulated by adjusting the height of the body into the frame using the stopblocks. Fresh air gets sucked in threw the holes of the frame while hot air inside automatically flows out of the chimney.

Close it down on cold days and open it up in warm days – this simple system permits you to use B A I T A all year round!
