Coolla is a family of two fruit cradles. They could be used as bags to store fruits on the shelf, hanged or laid, but also as a basket of fruit to display the food. Their structure is made of a piece of wood, the biggest one can also be removed and used as a tray.
Coolla is a word game with the Italian for cradle “culla” and the word “cool” a synonym of fresh, linked to its purpose, which is to make the fruit last fresher. The bags are made of cotton, which with its properties protects fruits and vegetables from the humidity of the kitchen. The closure of the bags consists of a particular knot, called the Japanese knot. It can be realized with a handle longer than the other. The asymmetric curve between the handles makes the work of folding the bag into the basket easier. The pocket with the wood structure gives more solidity to the container. The biggest bag is designed to be stored on shelves or hung, in fact, it has longer handles than the other. The smaller one is designed for the fridge. To use the bags in the role of baskets, it is needed to fold their sides inside out and to put the wood structure in their pocket. The purpose of this object is to reduce the waste of food and to offer a long-lasting and ecological alternative to plastic bags.
