O-two | airing system

During our research we discovered a lot about the root systems and the fungal connections of neighbouring trees. A fact which astonished us the most was the following: Scientists discovered that trees warn each other using chemical signals, sent through the fungal networks around their root tips, which operate no matter what the weather. This transmission of signals from one tree to the next, helps them to exchange news and prevent from insects, drought and other dangers.

We wanted to use this knowledge to translate it into a product, which is able to detect and communicate a specific state of danger.

And then Otwo was born.

Otwo is a device for every room, which detects autonomousely if there is enough fresh air in its surrounding area. Once the sensor goes below a specific level, Otwo starts to warn you and blinks using a white LED panel light.

The products main aim is to invite the society to actively give more importance to airing a room properly.

Während unserer Recherche entdeckten wir eine Menge über die Wurzelsysteme und die Pilzverbindungen benachbarter Bäume. Eine Erkenntnis, die uns am meisten verblüffte, war die folgende: Wissenschaftler entdeckten, dass Bäume sich gegenseitig mit chemischen Signalen warnen, die durch die Pilznetzwerke um ihre Wurzelspitzen herum gesendet werden und unabhängig vom Wetter funktionieren. Diese Übertragung von Signalen von einem Baum zum nächsten hilft ihnen, Nachrichten auszutauschen und sich vor Insekten, Trockenheit und anderen Gefahren zu schützen.

Wir wollten dieses Wissen nutzen, um es in ein Produkt zu übersetzen, das in der Lage ist, einen bestimmten Gefahrenzustand zu erkennen und zu kommunizieren.

Das war die Geburtsstunde von Otwo.

Otwo ist ein Gerät für jeden Raum, das selbstständig erkennt, ob in seiner Umgebung genügend Frischluft vorhanden ist. Sobald der Sensor einen bestimmten Wert unterschreitet, beginnt Otwo zu warnen und blinkt mit einer weißen LED-Leuchte.

Das Hauptziel des Produkts ist es, die Gesellschaft dazu aufzufordern, dem richtigen Lüften eines Raumes aktiv mehr Bedeutung zukommen zu lassen.

Durante la nostra ricerca abbiamo scoperto molto sui sistemi radicali e le connessioni fungine degli alberi vicini. Un fatto che ci ha stupito di più è stato il seguente: Gli scienziati hanno scoperto che gli alberi si avvertono l’un l’altro usando segnali chimici, inviati attraverso le reti fungine intorno alle loro punte delle radici, che funzionano indipendentemente dal tempo. Questa trasmissione di segnali da un albero all’altro, li aiuta a scambiarsi notizie e a prevenire da insetti, siccità e altri pericoli.

Volevamo utilizzare questa conoscenza per tradurla in un prodotto in grado di rilevare e comunicare uno specifico stato di pericolo.

E così è nato Otwo.

Otwo è un dispositivo per ogni stanza, che rileva autonomamente se c’è abbastanza aria fresca nell’area circostante. Una volta che il sensore scende al di sotto di un livello specifico, Otwo inizia ad avvertire e lampeggia utilizzando un pannello luminoso a LED bianchi.

Lo scopo principale del prodotto è quello di invitare la società a dare attivamente più importanza alla corretta aerazione di una stanza.
