The telescoping shopping cart is an extended model of the first shopping cart created by Orla E. Watson, still today it is an everyday basic ingredient. The basic idea, based on the first invention of Sylvan Goldman, a “combination of basket and wagon”, in 1949, Watson evolved the completely metal object with a telescope-like function. Moving one another allowed for more compact storage and a reduction of four-fifths of the surface area of a single cart.
