The trenchcoat is a medium to long, double-breasted raincoat, which was developed by Thomas Burberry in 1870. Thanks to its water-repellent fabric “gabardine”, the trench coat provided good weather protection with excellent comfort. These characteristics gave the coat special recognition from the military, as well as from soldiers in the First World War.
