Edistratti (http://edistratti.it) is an editorial movement that employs distraction as a fundamental principle. Through a survey, we analyzed how people behave when they read, and we discovered that most people nowadays get easily distracted by different stimuli, and consequently take more time and effort to finish the text. Therefore, lots of people decided to quit reading, while others never even started, due to a lack of time and distractions. Our analysis revealed that, despite the different sources of distraction, technology is the most influent. Smartphones, notifications and electronic devices mainly distract people from their reading experience. We tried to imagine how would stories and books work if they were written for distracted people with a short attention span that constantly bounces from online to offline platforms. So we created stories that mimic the impulses of random distractions, aiming to create a community that can contribute to the expansion of the story. Our manifesto aims to explain the principles of distraction applied to this new kind of reading and writing books, which becomes public and open to anyone who wants to add a new distraction to the story.
