Shodo Serif is a typeface inspired by the japanese calligraphy, called Shodō. It is one of the oldest and most profound traditional art forms in Japan, developed and appreciated since the 5th century. The aesthetics of Shodō calligraphy involves straight lines that should be strong and clear and curved lines that should be delicate and mobile. The Shodō calligraphy seeks a natural balance in both the individual characters and the composition as a whole. Therefore, this typeface has been made respecting the balance between straight and curved lines, a feature particularly stressed in the unbracketed serifs, with mix of round and bunt cuts.
