Im Aquarium – Eine Beobachtung

06′ 14” video

Distance is a numerical measurement of how far apart objects or points are. The distance from a point A to a point B is sometimes denoted as |AB|. In most cases, „distance from A to B“ is interchangeable with „distance from B to A“.

[…]it is a way of describing what it means for elements of some space to be „close to“, or „far away from“ each other. […]Psychological distance is defined as „the different ways in which an object might be removed from“ the self along dimensions such as „time, space, social distance, and hypotheticality.

This video installation is an expression and documentation of my relationship with the so-called outside and the inside. It displays the discrepancy between the need to find and contain a safe space in my inner world, to cultivate a certain mental playground and retreat, and the necessity of not wanting or being able to cut off the outside world.

Im Aquarium – Eine Beobachtung is mirroring the necessary distance and isolation, the lack of freedom and the limits of a flat in Vienna’s 15th district during lockdown.
