The concept of “transfer” indicates a migration of shapes, functions, movements, materials and/or narrations from an object to another. It can also be a migration of the same object from an environment to another. In my project, I focused on transfering the material and the feeling of an object to a different context from its original one.
Starting from a door handle designed by Carlo Scarpa,
I developed a family of furniture handles for drawers and armoirs.
The final output consists in a family of 5 furniture handles, designed to fit drawers and armoirs.
The recessed brass cylinders are compatible with all possible surface thicknesses. All the handles feature the same brass attachment, while the shape of leather varies from one model to another. To avoid any possibility of a cilinder going inside the furniture too much, a small countersink has been added.
The leather shapes have been designed to increase in width as they come out from the furniture, in order to reduce the size of the brass cilinder as much as possible.
2 objects feature an exra leather loop to fit clothes hangers.
For the final finishing on this product, I’ve chosen bright, natural cow leather, stitched with beige (natural colour) twine, but darker and coloured versions are also available
