Lume is a candle holder for windy days.

It consists of a wooden base where the candle is placed and a slot to fit a paper cylinder which acts as a windscreen. The paper chosen is made from calcium carbonate, which makes it waterproof and tear-proof, so it will not be damaged when used outdoors. It is also more sustainable than traditional paper, using no trees and much less water to produce it. By using of a simple joint, the paper remains in the conical shape. The paper is then decorated with drawings made in the Prad workshop. Discussing with the workshop leader, I realised how important it is to find a purpose for the drawings that are produced and not currently used, to create a contact between them and the outside world. A sheet with simple instructions to follow for decoration will also be given. The interaction between the flame (the paper is thick but lets the light shine through) and the drawings will create fascinating and ever-changing compositions. The idea was therefore to leave the base simple and functional, as if it were a support for the paper decorated in Prad’s workshop.
