Marmora is a drinking fountain for the public sphere.
At its core lies the appreciation and respect for marble and the understanding of its historical and social importance. Marble inherits this historical and social importance by passing on history through sculptures, architecture and art. Its special geological characteristics should deepen the user’s appreciation and awareness of its environment.
Marble pieces have to be understood as being of high value due to the materials scarcity and the labor going into their extraction.
The design of Marmora aims to create a visual understanding of circularity referring to the geological cycle of marble.
The free-standing metal pipe curves perfectly above the slightly conical basin guiding the water into the drain of the marble column. The rings holding the pipe seamlessly hug the column allowing the two materials to melt into each other creating the sensation of being one. The different parts of the object create a proportional coherency between the horizontal and vertical running elements.
By being aware of the preciousness of the material, Marmora’s effortless and proportional design renders it to be a long-lasting object being used by generations of people within the public sphere.
