MASKER project
MA Practice Based Course
2021
semester
The Masker project was born with the aim of rethinking the disposal of masks and the extensive use we make of them lately.
The numbers of disposal masks have now reached frightening numbers (129 billiond disposable masks per month). We are all aware of the fact that masks are part of medical waste, and as such must be considered in a certain way. But in our own small way, with our masks, we can do something to avoid waste and benefit from it.
Masker project is a DIY tool to rethink your masks in a new shape.
How?
– Keep your used masks in a closed bag for two weeks
– boil them in boiling water with disinfectant
– mix them in a kitchen mixer until you get a fibrous mixture (add a little water if necessary)
– place the mixture in a 0.5 cm high mold
– cover top and bottom with baking paper
– iron with a hot iron
– get your new surface!
With these simple steps you get a useful surface in different contexts. Mouse pad? Desk top? Yoga mat?
