R. 0.65 – Recycled marble as climate-friendly roofing material

semester
Marble is one of the most durable materials present on earth. But what can we do to enhance its properties and use the material more wisely – more sustainable?
R. 0.65 is my approach to use recycled marble and its qualities of color, outdoor use and durability in order to make a positive impact on climate crisis. This is achieved by a white roof tile, which increases the albedo/reflectivity of the city´s roofs, reducing heat accumulations. On larger scale, energy consumption due to air conditioning can be reduced, air pollutants are decreasing and the global trend of disappearance of white surfaces is counteracted.
Due to the use of an additive processing method, R. 0.65. is able to use marble waste and therefore, improves the products embodied energy.
Another great aspect of sustainability, especially durability is the problem of patina: These `imperfections´ of dirt and plant growth are integrated into the design in order to make patina part of the finished product. This will increase the products lifespan and ease its maintenance. Moreover, it makes the tiles a growing work of public art.
