In this project, stains are not seen as flaws or dirt, but as poetic
imprints of the lived past. They tell of human misfortune, the loss of control
over the situation or simply the passage of time. Unintentional moments are created, which (unlike a snapped photo) take place in the same layer of reality and in some cases last for eternity.

The goal of the anthropological project is to collect, analyze, and interpret traces and evidence in order to gain insights into the human experience and the world around us. Similar to the conceptual art direction of “Spurensicherung” (f.i. Christian Boltanski, Nikolaus Lang) hidden stories and meanings are uncovered and presented in an archive. This is what  makes them to “silent storytellers”: the presentation of the stains is meant to be as plain as possible, so that the stains are able to stand on their own and tell their story.
