Woodryer – Design Meets Handicap

Woodryer is a compact, countertop dish drainer that is designed to be placed near your kitchen sink.
The concept behind the design of this item was prompted by research on traditional folk artifacts. Whereas in the traditional version the slope is created “manually,” meaning by placing a wooden wedge under one of the short sides, the tilt in my product is an integral part of the wooden base.
The inclination of the plane allows the water that wets dishes and cutlery to slide down its surface, while the upper part consisting of interlocking joints is slightly raised to enable the flow of water and avoid stagnation of it. The presence of the interlockings allows you to move the pieces of the above part and reassemble them at will and according to your needs. The slotted pieces can indeed be turned in the opposite direction allowing you to create smaller compartments for kitchen tools, cutlery, and more.
The intent of this object is to recreate a traditionally inspired aesthetic to an object for which usually beauty is not deemed a salient point.
