Studio Moniker Workshop — Lewis Hamilton
With Studio Moniker – an Amsterdam based interactive design studio researching the social effects of technology – we organised a workshop about “Visual Identities”. During the span of two days, each group created a poster by following a series of self-imposed logical rules, whose aim was to put limits on what could be drawn. Each group had four colors: red, green, blue, and yellow, and the goal of the exercise was to retrace an image.
In our case, the algorithm worked as follows: The red dot was the starting of the process. The second passage was creating a blue half circle around the starting red dot, this half circle would have been filled with straight yellow lines to create more volume. In the end a green arrow points the next point where the red dot should be placed.
This exercise allowed us to discover how to play with the rules, and how to collaborate to reach the end result.
Studio Interact Workshop — Lewis Hamilton
In addition to Studio Moniker, we also made a collaboration with the Art Faculty, planning a workshop with Studio Interact to explore, through performances or videos, the concept of “how to disappear”.
In our video, we decided to work with sound, instead of sights. The performance starts by reading a sentence on an Instagram profile story and seeing how people react to it. The story says: “Start repeating out loud: Still I rise” The result can be divided in two main categories:
- The individual disappears, creating a main voice repeating the same words as the crowd merges into a united rhythm.
- The phrase disappears in the crowd noise, leaving an unrecognizable sound.
