The Conscious Self-Portrait
According to the Google dictionary, a free open-source thesaurus referring to the Oxford Dictionary, ‘consciousness’ is “the state of being aware of and responsive to one’s surroundings”, while somebody ‘self-conscious’ is one “feeling undue awareness of oneself, one’s appearance, or one’s actions”.
The central and recurring subject of the course is the self-portrait as a means of perception of the artist as a self in relation to their surrounding environment and the exploration of this condition of ‘consciousness’.
